The Cold Spring Harbor Central School District is seeking an Assistant Superintendent for Business to begin on or about December 1, 2025. They are looking for an outstanding and visionary educational leader, who will provide direction and oversight of all financial and operational functions to support the district’s educational mission.
The Cold Spring Harbor Central School District, comprised of approximately 1600 students, consists of one primary school, two elementary schools, and one junior/senior high school. It offers a diversified educational program with exciting learning opportunities at all grade levels.
Located on Long Island’s north shore, the district serves both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Most residents are college graduates who are active in their professional and business communities and support a rich program of academic offerings and co-curricular activities. Cold Spring Harbor’s open enrollment policy provides a setting where students are encouraged to challenge themselves.
The academic emphasis is college preparatory, and the breadth of the curriculum is evident in the availability of numerous courses emphasizing skills development and enrichment, as well as honors, Advanced Placement and elective offerings across all curricular areas. The school’s proximity to the famed Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory enables a unique partnership that offers expanded science research opportunities to students.
Cold Spring Harbor High School has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report (2025) as No. 1 in Suffolk County and No. 6 on Long Island among public high schools. Individual students, along with the district’s academic, athletic, artistic and extracurricular programs, are repeatedly recognized for outstanding achievements and successes.
Ideally the candidate should have school district experience, preferably as a central office administrator. Moreover, the successful candidate must possess NYS Certification as a School District Business Leader (SDBL), School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL).
Requirements
The Cold Spring Harbor CSD has hired School Leadership, LLC consulting firm to assist in the search for the new Assistant Superintendent for Business. The following are the major characteristics that the input from the school stakeholder groups would suggest the district should be seeking and screening for in candidates for the position.
The successful candidate will be:
A personable and approachable team player with experience working in a small school district and who is familiar with managing a wide range of business office responsibilities, in addition to serving as the purchasing agent and district clerk.
A knowledgeable school district administrator with demonstrated experience working in business administration and who understands how the financial operations support the educational process.
A skilled communicator who is able to clearly and specifically disseminate information regarding the school district’s financial status, as well as the policies and procedures expected by New York State Laws and developed by the Board of Education.
A collaborative individual who welcomes input from all, creates trust among co-workers, works in partnership with the Superintendent, and has supervisory knowledge and skills.
A visible and welcoming individual with strong problem-solving skills, an ability to be flexible and create alternative solutions to unexpected situations/events, as well as proficient in responding to requests and inquiries in a timely manner.
